Tooth removal may be required for a number of reasons.  Often the individual is feeling some degree of pain or discomfort.  On assessing the situation the dentist may recommend that one (or more) tooth/teeth need to be removed or extracted.

Often teeth may need to be removed for one of the following main reasons:

 

• Wisdom teeth - needing to be removed as a result of the position or angle of one or more of the emerging wisdom teeth

• Gum disease - resulting in a loose tooth needing to be extracted

• Preparation for dentures

• Damaged tooth structure, e.g. vertical crack within the tooth

• Teeth with extensive decay or damage

• Treatment not effectively resolved through initial root canal approach

• Overcrowding of teeth
